"The church was in the historicist style of the neo-baroque design; Baroque is the traditional Reformed unique city of Basel. Joseph Church was built in 1900-1902 by the St. Galler architect August Hardegger as parish church for the rapidly grown Catholic population in the small basel workers' quarters. It is with their original 1400 seats, the largest Catholic church in Basel. Hard Egger had a version with dome plan , but it got the version with a largethree-aisled hall for execution.
"The stained glass windows are from Friedrich Berbig . The choir from the altar painter August Wanner was created in 1926 and shows two murals of Joseph in Egypt. The altarpieces are by Rudolf leaves and Fritz Kunz (1868-1947) .The organ was built in 1904 by the organ builder Theodor Kuhn made in Männedorf.
"In 1988 the interior of the church was renovated; the renovation of the facade was made in 1997.
