Burnaby Village Church

"In a report to Mayor and Council in January 1972, the Chairman of the Burnaby Centennial '71 Committee (James.A. Barrington) reported on their activities to date. He noted that the committee had been tasked with providing a variety of events, and a permanent commemorative project. He also noted they had sponsored over 20 events and had completed the Heritage Village, “a small town reflecting the early history of British Columbia.” A sub-committee of the Centennial Committee was responsible for a permanent commemorative project. Chair Sandy Stewart worked with Richie Smith and Vic Stusiak to develop the concept of an open-air museum reflective of tram-stop community. The Interurban tram1223 and the Jubilee Station were their starting points. Architect and artist Rudy Kovacs was hired to come up with a design." (Link 1.)

"The museum opened with a blacksmith shop, buggy and bicycle shop, general store, land office, school house, manor house, ice cream parlour, apothecary shop, barber shop, dentist shop, Chinese general imports shop, print shop, and tram in November." (Link 1.)

"The Heiliggeistkirche is a Built in 1912, Roman Catholic Church in the Swiss city of Basel . It is located in the district Gundeldingen and the Holy Spirit ordained.
"The church, together with the outbuildings a Baublockecke the street grid of the neighborhood . A church- rectory lying arched portico leads into a large courtyard .

"1897 acquired the Roman Catholic Church land at today Thier steinerallee. 1907 architect was Gustav Doppler commissioned to build the church. The original plans were in the following years from Freiburg diocesan builder Max Meckel slightly amended before 1911, the groundbreaking ceremony took place. On 26 October 1912, finally the Holy Spirit Church of was Bishop Jakob Stammler inaugurated, where 600 young people the confirmation received.


"The church is in spätneugotischen style of South German origin as three-aisled  basilica with lateral front tower designed.
"Inside the church has a neo-Gothic features with three from Freiburg Joseph Dettlinger carved winged altars , floral stained glass , murals with the Stations of the Cross , church benches and confessionals .
"The cellular vaulting is typical of pre-Reformation urban parishes in southern Germany. The designs for the architectural sculpture came from both Freiburgs culptors Ludwig Kubanek and his colleague Hans Weißenburger. The painting got Franz Schilling , who also came from Freiburg.

"The organ was founded in 1921 by the company Späth Orgelbau ( Rapperswil built).The instrument was predisposed romantic. 1982-1984, the instrument has been extensively renovated, while the interim changes undone. The instrument has now again 41 registers on three manuals and pedal." "The Heiligekirche has a huge white ceiling with arched sides. There are wooden benches for the congregation, marble and wood floors.

"Behind the main and side altars, there are gold figurines encased in a box that can be closed off. I really like the multiple arched white ceilings." (Link 2.)

"Uitikon lies on the northern end of the Albis hills that include the Üetliberg mountain and form the western bound of the city of Zürich.... The municipality is some 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) west of, and 150 metres (490 ft) higher than, Zürich city centre, and straddles the main road west from Zürich toBirmensdorf. The village of Uitikon lies to the north of the road, 
"Uitikon has an area of 4.4 km2 (1.7 sq mi)...Uitikon has a population (as of 31 December 2012) of 3,944."  As of 2008 there were 1055 Catholics and 1607 Protestants in Uitikon." (Link 1.)

"The Swiss Reformed Church  refers to the Reformed branch of Protestantism in Switzerland started in Zürich... by Huldrych Zwingli and spread within a few years to Basel,...  Bern... Haller and Niklaus St. Gallen,... to cities in southern Germany and via.... to France.
"Since 1920, the Swiss Reformed Churches have been organized in 26 member churches of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches. According to a 2012 Swiss census, 26.9% of Swiss population were reported as registered members of a Reformed cantonal church.
"The Reformation spread primarily in the cities of Switzerland, which was then composed of loosely connected cantons

"A distinctive feature of the Swiss Reformed churches in the Zwinglian tradition is their historically almost symbiotic link to the state..." (Link 3.)

"On the road that goes to Bellagio, outside the village of Lasnigo, stands the Romanesque church devoted to S. Alessandro, that you can reach following a way flanked by the little chapels of the Via Crucis. The church was built in the XII century and partially rebuilt in 1400. Interesting are the Romanesque bell-tower and the inside frescoes by Gerolamo Gorla and Andrea De Passeri dating back to the XVI and XVII centuries." (Link 1.)

  • "Sant'Agostino, built by the Cistercians in the early 14th century, heavily renovated in the 20th. The interior and adjoining cloister have 15th–17th century frescoes, but most of the decoration is Baroque."
