The Reformed church (Alte Kirche Höngg) (Link 1.)

"The Alte Kirche Höngg (old church of Höngg) is a Reformed church in the district 10 of Zürich. Its congregation forms part of the Evangelical "Reformed Church of the Canton of Zürich.

"Based on archeological research, the basement of the church relates to the 8/9th century. Therefore, the vineyard on which this church is on top of is a point for people to pray and meet since over 1200 years.

"Over the last few centuries, the church has been extended in size and structure before getting the shape it has today. However, at the beginning of the Reformation in 1523 a few local inhabitants removed all the statues and pictures from within the church. It was further in 1863 where the tower roof together with the clock face was renewed." (Link 1.)

" The pulpit with the sound coverdates back to the 19th century , and the choir window was designed in 1969 by Franz Karl Opitz . The baptismal font of the church dates from the same year .(Link 2.)

"In 1898, a pneumatic membrane organ was built by Carl Theodor Kuhn, Männedorf. This instrument had 9 registers on 2 manuals and pedal. Already in 1925, the first instrument was replaced by a new, pneumatic Taschenladenorgel by Carl Theodor Kuhn, Männedorf, with 16 sounding registers on two manuals and pedal. Its present organ was given to the church Höngg in the year 1972. It concerns a mechanical Schleifladenorgel, built by organ building Kuhn AG, Männedorf, with 20 registers on 2 manuals and pedal. In 1991, a revision of the instrument by Orgelbau Kuhn AG, Männedorf. " (Link 2.)

"The Neumünster is an Evangelical Reformed Church building in Zurich city distric tRiesbach. The church is located on the Neumünster Neumünster Road 10 southwest of Hegibachplatzes.

The Neumünster is a longitudinal rectangular, five-axis hall building, which is located on the Zelglihügel, a small hill that was once free is now but surrounded by mansions from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Three flights of stairs lead from the road to Neumünster Church, the main access is determined by a monumental staircase. The church is surrounded by parkland, with cypresses and lime trees planted. East of the church was once the Neumünster Neumünster cemetery, which is now converted into a park.

"On the narrow sides of the church corner buildings are prefixed. The late classical main façade has three portals and is by columns and pilasters rhythm. About the middle, slightly protruding portal rises the bell tower, located in a cube-shaped mezzanine, a sleek bullet with clock tower and an octagonal divided top floor. The side fronts are divided by high, narrow rectangular windows.

The first historical mention of the St. Jakob church dates to 1221. It was the site of the Battle of St. Jakob an der Sihl in 1443. (Link 3.)

The Battle of St. Jakob an der Sihl was a battle of the Old Zürich War that occurred on July 22, 1443, resulting in a defeat for Zürich....The commander of the Habsburg forces, Albrecht Freiherr von Bussnang, was killed behind the altar of the St. Jakob chapel. (Link 2.)

Choir Loft and Organ Pipes

The Reformed Church, Wollishofen is in the area of Zurich, Switzerland known as Wollishofen.  Wollishofen is south of the Zurich city center and east of Lake Zurich.

Mathew 6 verse 21

"For worship and other religious occasions the little old church is used on the Kilchbergstrasse usually. The jewel is also a very popular church for weddings.

In contract to the "Old Church" with its onion domed spire above a square bell steeple and clock, in 1937 a stark modern "New Church" was built up the hill, "On the Egg".  (See Blog Post 9/21/14.)

"The highly visible church on the Egg is clothed entirely with limestone. It captivates by its pure form and its imposing size.

"in 1913...the parish Wollishofen (bought) the land, 9267 m2, by the municipality of Zurich. They planned to build the church by Zwingli anniversary in 1919. The first World War and the subsequent bad years but this made ​​it impossible. Only in 1929 was a competition, the architectural firm Henauer + Witschi as the winner.1934, the construction loan of Fr 1'325'000 -. granted. On July 17, 1935, ground was broken and on 12 September 1937, the church was inaugurated with a big party. In 1989, an interior and exterior renovation by architect Alfred Trachsel." Clock Tower

The stark architecture features a high square clock tower with three slotted windows on each side.  The Sanctuary is a rectangular block with a curved end and vertical slit windows, but  no stained glass windows. The metal front doors are embellished with stars.

"The entire ensemble consisting of church, rectory with classroom and row of houses close surroundings is included in the inventory of protected objects of local significance. On the outer skin (shell) with a copper roof, siding, doors and windows including all details nothing can be changed.

The pulpit is stylized with vertical strips and a curved top.  The altar repeats the vertical strip pattern and has block letters edging the top.

"The imposing "new" Church On the Egg dominates the small hill in the center of Wollishofen. It is surrounded by green areas and a large square, which is used for religious services and also for the Christmas market. From the church you can enjoy a wonderful view of the old Wollishofen and the lake.
